The walls in our master bedroom are beige, yes, believe it or not, there are beige walls in our house. I like bedrooms to be pretty peaceful. When Luke selected my old Julia Gray bed from our basement storage for his bedroom makeover, I have to admit I was very hesitant. It didn’t think it was the right vibe and it looked like a girl’s bed! But he was very convincing telling me this was perfect, because it looked like a bed Bed makeover – from girly to boyish!
Our house is a bit of a disaster these days as several rooms are getting a makeover. The process started out somewhat small, but is becoming more drastic by the minute. Has that ever happened to you? In honor of my charity Knock Out Abuse Against Women’s annual event tonight, I’m doing a RED post. 700 women are getting together at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Washington DC tonight to help combat domestic violence, in just a few hours…and I’m blogging!! It’s always a blast to produce an event with 700 women looking to have a good time while supporting an important cause. Girl friends are flying in from all over the country to attend.
The theme for the night is RED (with a little MAD MEN inspiration). The room is designed by genius event designer Andre Wells. I can’t wait to see the retro red couches and the zebra walls and the 60 male models dressed like Jon Hamm who will be escorts for the evening. (YES it’s the ultimate girls night out!) Promise I’ll post pictures next week. RED and a little Mad Men!
I’m a HUGE supporter of recycling and reinventing furniture. I think the most impressive, effective, green store I’ve ever been to, is the giant warehouse in my hometown, called SOLARETUREN. Local citizens dump all kinds of unwanted items here. Furniture, clothes, sports equipment, toys, everything down to that old broken microwave oven you were about Treasure hunting – Swedish style
It’s great when you happen to pass a piece of furniture that’s been overlooked in a second hand store, so they’re practically giving it away. I of course, can’t help myself and have to buy it. There’s always something you can do with it. There might be that someone, that it would just be perfect A dining set reinvented

Danielle has worked at Marmalade Interiors and LiveLikeYou for the last year and her passion for the environment has been very contagious. Her home is entirely green down to the mattresses they sleep on! She is a master “craigslister”, helps “green” school environments, and is a huge fan of salvaging trash. If she comes over to your house and you eat take out dinner, she might very well start packing up your trash to bring with her(!), saying something like “Fairfax county doesn’t recycle grade 5 plastic but they do in my county, so I’m bringing it with me.” Huh? Anna and Jill, blond, both of undefinable age(!), are seated in an airy, white living room engrossed in what appears to be a discussion about design plans. The room is empty except for a few items. A small Ikea couch, a wood table, some wall sconces and and over in the corner…an old, lonely, worn chair who sadly has seen it’s best days pass.
