Our sweet life in LA

Moving to LA was one of the most difficult decisions I ever made. I had to take Luke out of school, turn down tons of work, sell our house and things, and start a brand new life on the other side of the country. It was a gamble. After 6 months…would we love it or would we hate it?

I can safely say it’s the best adult decision I ever made! If you are sitting somewhere reading this and feeling unhappy about your life and where you are living, don’t be afraid to make a change. Moving and starting over has inspired me to be completely true to myself, as a human being, a mom, and with the direction of my business. I didn’t want to make the huge change of moving and then not commit all the way in all areas of my life. So still working hard on creating just the life I want. I have a gratitude app on my Iphone ( highly recommend it) and first on my list most days is definitely our sweet new life here. It has such beautiful simplicity.

In the mornings and evenings I either take bike or walk the dogs…READ MORE Our sweet life in LA →

OUR FRUSTRATING LA HOUSE HUNT

House hunting. Have you done it?

You heard me talk about all the amazing new lifestyle changes that came with moving to this beautiful state. What I haven’t shared much of is our frustrating hunt. When we made the decision to move here the real estate market was in a slump and there were tons of fixers just waiting to be redone. Unfortunately the month we started house hunting the market went on an extreme upswing and before I even saw a property a home would have 5-10 bids from developers making the prices sky rocket. Disappointing to say the very least.

You would think it would be easy to find an ugly duckling to fix. So fast forward six months – we’re still in our rental. But with slim pickings, crazy prices, old school charm and ocean view – is hard to come by. But I’m not giving up!

This is what a lot of my days look like…READ MORE OUR FRUSTRATING LA HOUSE HUNT →

It's hard not to feel giddy…

Since arriving back to LA after Christmas break I’ve literally found myself giddy with excitement. I’m used to freezing my butt off in January swearing at the cold and darkness, getting depressed and dreaming about warmer places.  Instead now the early school mornings I used to swear over are a joy.  The insanely nice 70READ MORE It's hard not to feel giddy… →

Christmas, Glogg and Saffron rolls

Happy Holidays!

Christmas shopping barefoot among palm trees I kind of forgot it was Christmas. First year in California is disorienting because you keep thinking is still August. But after a long flight to Sweden Christmas arrived after all. Although this year we’re missing out on snow it’s still Santa’s town.

Hope you are yours are enjoying the holidays. I’m not big o cooking but I’ve added links on the bottom of this post to two things really worth a try this holiday season even for non Swedes. The best Christmas drink ever(!)- Glogg, and saffron rolls.READ MORE Christmas, Glogg and Saffron rolls →

Inside my (whirlwind) Week

I have to admit – I  kind of feel like I’m cheating because our lifestyle here is so easy. No siting in rush hour traffic, no clearing ice off the windshield, or freezing our butts off in the morning driving Luke to school. Instead we play a game of ping pong in the sun, beforeREAD MORE Inside my (whirlwind) Week →

Inside my month in LA

The past few weeks has been a time of never ending change and renewal. After a few years of pretty much being a workaholic I’ve taken some time off to get Luke settled and happy in his new school, see old & meet new friends, and adjusted to a whole new life in our little bungalow at the other side of the country. I’ve also allowed myself some quiet time to focus on where my company is headed next, as big changes lay ahead in that department.

Since my “official” office is still in Virginia for just ten more days (GULP!) all that quiet is about to change. Next week we go back to DC do the final move out of our house, host an estate sale (Oct 11-3 if you are DC), shoot five design projects, charity meetings, and then the set up studio/slash office here in LA. Oh boy.

But hopefully I’ve gained clear direction on where I’m heading while doing some of this…

We have arrived!

We our now living in California. I still can’t believe it.

We have settled in to our cute little rented bungalow. It’s been a long, hard exhausting process emotionally and physically that included 5 days of camping in our new house with no internet for 9 days. (I now officially hate aero beds and FIOS. There I said it.)

For the longest time Luke had a wishlist — he wanted to live in a place where it was warm all the time, in a small house in a neighborhood he could bike around in, with a bedroom across the hall from mine and a mail slot in the door.

I committed to changing my life and living it the way I always had imagined, instead of settling.

It has not been easy, nothing worth doing is ever easy and I know there are challenges ahead. But we got what we wished for…

…..even unexpectedly a mail slot in the door.READ MORE We have arrived! →
