Madly,Truly, Talented

et asked the question all the time “what inspires you?” There are always a million answers as inspiration is all around everyday. But there are also a ton of interior designers who really inspire me, the list is very long. A few of those have at points in my life, taken my taste and style in a different direction.

Although their interiors are very varied, they have one thing in common. THEY ARE ANTI MINIMALISTS!

They are fearless about their use of color, masters of creating a room that not only is beautiful, but one that takes you to to a different “dimension”. Perhaps Dorothy Draper said it best, she urged people to avoid the “will to be dreary”.

Interiors to me should move your senses, and all these designers are experts at it.READ MORE Madly,Truly, Talented →

The Beach house

Summer is coming, it doesn’t feel like it with the cold weather we had here yesterday… but it’s coming! At a lunch meeting yesterday everyone was talking about Martha’s Vineyard, Nantucket and other amazing summer places, and it got me thinking about how nice it would be to have a beach house near some crushing waves somewhere… What a nice way that would be to spend the summer. I’m designing a bunch of “online” rooms for LiveLikeYou (it will launch — just taking FOREVER!!!) and looking at great products and designs. There’s so many ways you can go with a beach house, but right now I loving driftwood, shell pieces, rugged carpets and the colors of the sea sand- you just can’t go wrong. And you won’t get tired of it I think.READ MORE The Beach house →

Neutral elegance

Spent the evening at my friend Anna’s house who did a fantastic job renovating her new house without the help of a designer. I was impressed! She installed an IKEA kitchen that looks like a a $ 30,000 kitchen. ( IKEA… a subject we’ll get to in the next post…)

With the renovation work done, she wanted some help designing the main living areas of her house. So we got to work. First discussing ideas, style and preferences. She loves light colors, white, tan, gray, in a mix of modern, country and with some hip factor. Here are some photos and products we were looking at, which reminded me how neutrals can be incredibly nice. READ MORE Neutral elegance →
