Think Outside The Box!

Okay, it’s time again for some outside the box ideas about design. Here we go….

1. LET THE CEILING DO THE TALKING!

You’ve heard it a million times here…don’t ignore the ceiling. Think up something you’ve never seen before…why not?

2. WALL PAPER WITH NEWSPAPER!!

(can’t remember image source)

3. MIX FLORALS, ANIMAL PRINT AND GREEK KEY ALL IN ONE ROOM!

Okay this might have been something I would not have liked a few years ago. Bit if you allow your mind to be open, what you might not have liked yesterday you may love insanely today. This is my new favorite pattern mix!!!

4. PAINT AN INSANELY STRONG COLOR INSIDE A WHITE CABINET!

Who doesn’t like an element of surprise?

5. USE WALLPAPER THAT GIVES A 3-D ILLUSION

Wow!

6. USE AS MANY COLORS AND SHAPES AS YOU CAN IN ONE ROOM AND BE SURPRISED AT THE HAPPY MIX!

This room that Darlene of Fieldstone Hill design did just makes me smile!  Hello happy room!

7. LIVE LIKE A MERMAID(?)…JUST IN CASE YOU WANT TO!

This apartment below is for sale by a model in NYC. I give her kudos for allowing herself to be who she is. A modern day Venus perhaps?

And somebody else taking it a step further….Sleeping in a shell bed????

After all you should live like you – not everybody else!! And you should certainly not try to please everybody else, your home is for you!

Life is too short for depressing interiors!

HAVE A FANTASTIC WEEKEND!!!

  1. I need to paint the inside of something in my apartment- I've been meaning to do it for awhile now and you just gave me the kick in the butt. Hmmm now to just pick a color?

  2. what a fun post! I love the newspaper walls and the green medicine cabinet. so lighthearted!
Thanks for featuring Fieldstone Hill Design, Jill! Have a great weekend!

  3. I love the apartment in NYC. Do you have a source for that wonderful wood chair? Thanks, I just discovered your blog. Wonderful!

  4. It's never dull coming here! 🙂
Love your creative encouragement and all the 'pushing-boundaries-thinking' – brilliant!

I am way to spontaneous to be able to use my permanent decor features to dominate. I need a fairly neutral base in order to chop and change the look n' feel of my home regularly. But I do adore an unexpected twist like feature ceilings and insides of furniture with bright colours or wallpaper (including cupboards!). Fun fun!

    Big hugs

P.S. Hur går det med er?

  5. happy new Year!! Always a fun burst of color and whimsy here on your blog. These are two of the things I want to add more of too my decor, color and whimsy. It is what I love so why Not?!! What am I waiting for?

  6. Yes indeed – life is too short for depressing interiors! The world needs more of YOU, Ms. Jill!

Hard to be unhappy in that office. A tad envious of that pink wingback chair….

  7. I just saw your advertisement in House of Fifty Magazine, clicked on your store link…love love love it. Then I clicked on your blog, and I saw that you were looking for the source for the picture with the purple and cream rug. That room was in the same issue of House of Fifty Magazine too, and the Interior Designer is Natalie Clayman.
