My Obsession -The beauty of Chinoiserie

There is perhaps not a prettier pattern out there than chinoiserie. What looked amazing in Europe in the 1700’s, still looks current and beautiful in modern interiors today.  Purchasing original hand painted silk wallpaper from Gracie Home might not be in our budgets, but there are many ways to infuse your interiors with the elegance of chinoiserie.

You can purchase remnants of the famous wall paper, like this designer did.  It made a tiny apartment in NYC look incredibly elegant.  (These remnants were even broken..) You can perhaps find it on Ebay.

These are beautiful chinoiserie wallpapers from Belle Chasse in Los Angeles.

An inexpensive way to add the pattern is perhaps a….

…garden stool. Adding one or two adds some upscale elegance to any room.

A screen is perhaps not so inexpensive…

…but at least you can make sure if you spend the money on the wallpaper—you bring it with you when you move!

One of my favorite things lately is framing wallpaper.  You need only a small piece, and again…you bring it with you when you move.

You can find framed remnants from Belle Chasse.

Here is a beautiful cabinet from Decorative Crafts.

This piece makes me think….hmm…perhaps I will try to wallpaper a piece of furniture with chinoiserie wallpaper?  Have you tried it?

To be continued…
