Pictures from our house in Sweden

Every summer we come to our house here in Sweden and every time I fall in love with this place all over again.

Homes are to be loved and lived in and I can’t think of a place that represents that more than this house. The house sits in a little village with only seven old houses all facing this beautiful little lake. It’s filled to the brim most days with family, and friends and overnight guests.

It’s a magical place on earth and I feel deeply grateful to get to live here.

In the afternoon until about 11pm it’s magical hour in terms of the light. I can stare for hours out my bedroom window, it just never grows old.

This is a snap shot of the entry yesterday. I wanted people to feel relaxed and want to stay a while the second they enter. To know this is a place you come where things don’t have to be perfect.

The carpet is a Swedish “trasmatta” woven with leftovers.

This is a cousin burger!

Luke is now 16 and the big cousin, here with our frequent little sleepover guests Viggo, Zoe and Irma.

I love our new kitchen floor. Swedes make good plastic floors and they are easy to clean!

This is our little red shed down by the lake early this morning.  I ran down to get a picture of the swan that lives in the lake. However you can hardly see it, but its there.

Luke with my dad, his grandpa in what we call the “view room”, the dining room with the killer view of the lake.

Every space has a relaxed vibe. Although the kitchen just got the bright yellow make over with a new floor and new Ikea base cabinets the vibe is super casual.

The old wooden rod in the ceiling has hung here since the 1800’s and it’s to hang crispbread on. Think I have to hang some up just to be able to say I decorate with bread!

This is the dining room in the “view room”.

The pretty pink walls in the TV room that all the men were opposed to but now love.

The view with the red barn on the other side of the lake. ( And the swan)

This is the TV room where Luke is playing cards with guests Celeste and Cappi.  This room was part of the One Room Challenge and got a makeover a couple of years back.

Carpet is from my line Bonfire Maze Rug. Ready-made Drapery is my line as well Greek Key in Sunshine.

One of the many tile fireplaces.

This is the master bedroom, all white floors, walls and ceiling. The bedding changes according to my mood.

This is Sunshine Deco bedding. The yellow makes me happy.

Walking down the busy main road with friends and my brother heading to the other hidden lake in the forest for a swim at night.

There is a little cabin hidden in the woods. There is nothing around this lake, just forest.

Luke’s room – we put in a bigger bed but it basically has stayed the same since he was small because that’s how we like it here.

The guest house.

The entire guest house has all white walls, ceilings and floor.

Currently on the beds my Kobalt Bang Bang bedding.  The dresser was a vintage find years ago that I painted turquoise.

All the items in the entire guest house are fleamarket finds.

This year the Jansch family girls broke in the sleeping loft upstairs that still needs some furniture. If you are Swedish you can read about their visit on Jennifer blog on Pernilla Wahlgren here.

Our trip here is coming to an end and it’s almost like this magical place knows it. The sunset looked like the northern lights and the sky turned so bright pink that even the lake was hot pink.

Tonight I feel immense gratitude not only for this house but for this sweet country.

  1. I always love it when you take your readers on our own sweet trip to your little part of Sweden. The lights in the evening are glorious and I love the lake and the swan. You've made such progress with your house since it flooded. Great work when you're a half a world away. Looking forward to your new outdoor space in CA.

  2. Your house is lovely, looks very inviting and comfortable. The forrest lake is such a treasure but I would’nt dare to swim at night, lol.

  3. It is indeed a beautiful house, loved the combination of yellow color and black and white tile pattern used in kitchen. The bonfire maze rug is looking amazing. Great interiors.
