On Christmas, have you ever…

Well this Christmas vacation didn’t exactly go the way we had planned. There’s been a lot of bizarre and extreme “first time” experiences.  So I’m wondering…

…have you ever….

…fallen ill with the stomach flu the first day of Christmas vacation, and have it make the rounds in your family?

Have you ever been quarantined to your house for five days straight unable to see the family and friends you came to visit?

Have you ever driven in a car with iced up windows?

Have you ever gone out to a local pizza joint and been forced to eat the meal with all your snow gear on, because they were unable to heat the place?

Then halfway through your meal have the power go out and  have to leave?

And find it really funny?

Have you ever let your kids to play in -10 Fahrenheits?

Have you ever gone skating in a ski outfit from the early 90’s because your luggage has been lost by the airlines all week?

Have you ever planned on going skating with your brother, then have him call you and let you know his car slid off the icy road down into a ditch and straight on to a light pole, leaving the car totaled?

But miraculously be completely unscathed, and still be able to come and skate with you one hour later?

Have you ever taken a sled down a steep hill in the dark at 4pm so fast you glide all the way out on an icy lake with your friendly neighbors?

Have you ever come in so cold you think you’ll never heat up?

Have your feet ever been so cold they’re in pain, and have them slowly warm up on a hot tile fireplace?

Then tried to take a shower but the water in the shower has frozen?

Have you ever had to heat a meal on a stove from the 1800’s, because the power went out in the kitchen due to cold weather?

And learned that it works perfectly?

Have you ever had your brother  shovel the snow close to the house to make it warmer?

While your father is fixing one power outage after another?

And with great success?

Have you ever gone to bed the night before Christmas and wished for a nice normal day with the family and friends you love?

And known that all the crazy struggles that come your way makes for the best memories?

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!!

  1. so true! this is the Christmas you and your family will be talking about in 20 years – "remember when…" It sounds both horrible and heavenly.

  2. I'm freezing just looking at those pictures…but my gosh they're gorgeous! So sorry you were sick, but so glad you're with your family!

  5. Hope everyone is well now and you can enjoy a happy and healthy Christmas! Your pictures are absolutely stunning and make me want me to go buy some top of the line winter gear (even though I'm at the beach in North Carolina)! Yay for ice skating at Christmas time in Sweden!

  6. Oh my, I am about to leave on my family reunion ski vacation and I am dreading all of the "have you ever's " that always come with family vacations. But it always seems to be fun when you're with family back home…hope you feel batter Jill.
