One Room Challenge – Week # 3 – Kitchen makeover madness!

We just moved in and are all camping out in one room of the house since there is no floor yet. I’m delirious from moving all day, so hopefully I’ll make sense in this blog post!

I so badly want to check up on all the other ORC makeovers, but it just has to wait until my head is not buried in cardboard packing boxes (=hell).  I’m a bit like a human wreck currently.  If you missed my estate sale there are still items left, check the post here.

If you want to check out my mad kitchen makeover progress go here to visit previous weeks.

Week # 1     Week # 2

THIS WEEK…

I love quartzite counter tops, too bad they’re not cheaper!  The White Macauba version has after all a similar price to marble, but at least I won’t have have guests in my kitchen and worry about them making rings! And the look is to die for chic.

This week we were at Jose the stone cutters place out in the Valley determining just how to cut the marble waterfall top. I want just the right pattern on the stone going down the top of the counter and on the sides.

Dusty, hot and filled with only men. Not surprisingly no women work in the stone places I’ve visited. It’s also not a place for hyper people like myself. Stone cutting is a serious and time consuming business!

We refitted the sink after having the island moved out.

Javier and I drew were the 17 x 17″ square island sink would go.

And here it is marked off on the stone slab.

Casing went in (the entire house).

Shutters were painted.

I ordered three of these vintage brass Milo Baughman bar stools from Feelin vintage on Etsy and they are shipping from Florida tomorrow.

Will they arrive on time? Not sure, if they do, will they be upholstered on time?

I honestly don’t know.

Appliances started arriving….

I went all out and and selected a high end brand with an industrial stainless steel look.

All Jennair with chefs handles, but with a microwave drawer from Sharp.

Perhaps the good appliances will make me a better cook…?

But here is the worst part, that I might live to regret as it comes to ORC makeovers….

I just returned the Jennair hood I bought after seeing this picture on Emily Hendersons instagram feed….really wish I didn’t….

Now I need a custom brass hood. DAMN. I just need one now, not part of original plan.

So yesterday I ordered a different hood….

…that may or may not arrive in time.

We are going to create a custom shell for it and have it powder coated.

In this gold, which is the only color option. But it will do. I again just really hope I can pull it off in three weeks.

Now I have to go back to packing, but first a really big glass if wine.

Cheers friends!

Check out the other women who surely have the whole thing under control.

P.S.
My adventurous assistant Mehr decided to sleep out on my new office deck overnight. Got to love California Living! Think I’m really going to love it here.
