We stayed with my dear friend Jenny in Shelter Island for the last couple of days. She bought an old house, which she spent a year renovating with great results. All the original wood paneling was left with it’s antique wood tone. It gave you the feeling of living on a vintage ship. (If I had not forgotten my camera at her house, I would have shared the pictures in this post! )
But the visit got me thinking of, how chic the old fashioned, nautical color combination of navy and white is. I’ve been seeing it more and more lately, and with a bit of a modern twist.
Navy, white and dark brown wood is a classic combination – yet this feels very modern.

Thanks for posting this! I have so much navy & white in my home that I was beginning to wonder if I need to mix it up more, but seeing all these has given me an incentive to stay the course!
Navy seems like a nice way to enter into some "color" without going overboard. It could be the new black. love it
