Get a glamorous take on your life!

Daily life can sometimes feel really mundane. According to a study I just read, 8 hours of the average working woman’s day is spent on house hold chores like grocery shopping, laundry, cleaning, family management, childcare.
I think that’s why one of my favorite things in interiors is adding some glamorous touches.  It might sound shallow to some, but I think if we create a home that aid our imagination and removes us visually and emotionally from daily “mundaness” we might feel different.  When I created the first personality Glamour Girl on LiveLikeYou I had a specific character in mind. A woman who wanted some glamour in her home, with a dash of  Dorothy Draper, zebra and anything Hollywood Regency!

And with lots of PURPLE. A color that is said to inspire dreams and imagination.

So what can you do to add a glamorous touch to your home?

I started with a color scheme I thought was suitable to an old fashioned movie star, yet modern and graphic enough to be right for a bold person.

I wanted to create a home that had some drama, and was elegant yet friendly.  And the mood had to be kick started in the FOYER.  The space had to give you a strong feeling the second you enter.

I wanted a space that even though you arrive home stressed and tired from work you would instantly be engulfed by something glamorous and “magical”.

Things that create that for me is…..

A big glittery chandelier

A mirror adds the soul to any room….

And of course a zebra carpet!

And I imagined a breakfast room that would work as a dining room as well.  A place that when you dine, even with the kids, you dine in style…

Interior design in Erin Gates.

For our Glamour Girl’s dining room I wanted…

..it to feel like a 40’s movie star could live there. A space that would be perfect for both breakfast and dinner. But with the dark carpet it’s also okay for kids. It doesn’t show spills, and it’s easy to clean….

…and a Hollywood inspired chair with white leather, that despite it’s glamorous appearance is easy to wipe!

Some accessories that add instant elegance in any home…

Greyhound ceramic dogs.

Another ultra glamorous thing you can do is to to your home is PAINT YOUR DOORS BLACK WITH WHITE TRIM. So Dorothy Draper!!

These fantastic doors (does anyone know source?) might be all you need to create a glam home.

Now what is the ultimate luxury for a woman? Yes, the CLOSET. We can all dream of a walk in closet. No matter how big or small the space it should be something special.

A glamorous girl should have a space to call her own.  This is a perfect room to paint the doors black.  Adding unexpected elegance in smaller spaces, might be the most glam of all.

To me her closet had to have….

…a chic chandelier. Add one in a closets, your bathroom, a small power rooms.

Again I know you can see your reflection in just any cheap mirror, but I LOVE adding glam Hollywood Regency inspired mirrors. This gilded chinese bamboo mirror will make your reflection even better.

And this bamboo mirror lends some elegant curves.

I think women often forget to pamper and take care of themselves, because they’re always taking care of everyone else!!

Perhaps with some glamorous touches you would feel pretty fab folding laundry and emptying the dishwasher?

Who knows?

  1. Good morning my friend,

You are the queen of livable glamour! Your rooms are always chic and joyous and filled with different and nice treasures! Not the same old, same old. And that is why I/(ok we!) adore you and your style.

  2. Jill I love your life and design philosophy!! I think adding pieces that are very special even if one cannot redo an entire room at the time.

I have some fabulous mirrors and art of course. Dramatic paint, the easiest way to add lush feel and pillows can transform a space. Also think paint on furnishings you already own!

  8. The most common ones you see in households in Japan are electric kettles and electric
rice cookers. Some of the higher cost and superior models make use of induction heating.

And, because it has a built in timer, you won't need to worry about running back home to shut it off so it won't boil over.

  10. Rice is the food that is full of carbohydrate. I agree that rice is the real best food for the pets. Pet’s health is very sensitive any problem in their food makes the live bad. so you can also go for some other food along with rice just like the pet foods available in market. Animal Hospital Moorpark Also you can give some vitamin foods which are made in home. So, better to choose rice along with some more nutritional food.
