EPS. 3 – Move.Like.You – The Pod!

We’re getting closer….

This has been a crazy busy time preparing our house for sale.  When you get ready to move, it’s amazing how much stuff you realize you have that you don’t really need?

How did that happen?

I’ve spent days organizing, clearing things out and fixing things that had been put off for a long time.  I’ve now turned in to the official stressed slob!

Stuff, just so much stuff…

Packing up – step one.

I was introduced to the pod! (if you get this post via e-mail and don’t see video click over to the blog)

episode # 3 – Move.Like.You.-The Pod!

There are a lot of nights lying awake wondering where this adventure will take us. But I’m also excited about change, new challenges and ideas.

If you have any great tips on moving or have moved I would LOVE to hear from you in the comment section. The last video comments were so incredibly uplifting and the tips very helpful. They are appreciated more than you think.

  1. I just moved 2 weeks ago and being an interior designer myself (with a love for beautiful things and freestanding furniture pieces) moving was much more challenging than what I remembered! As you very correctly said, stuff, just so much stuff!!!

The two things that I did which proved to be very helpful were:

    1. Write on every box what's in there, which room and floor it should go in the new house and instruct the home movers to put them in the correct room. Make sure to write it on the side of the boxes because when you pile them you can still read what's in there (instead of having to move them so you can read the top of them)

    2. I had 'essentials' boxes that took with me in my car. One with kitchen essentials (mugs, kettle, coffee, sugar, cutlery etc), one with bathroom essentials (toilet roll, shampoos, shower gel etc) and one with toiletry essentials (tooth brush/paste, make-up, moisturiser etc). Last thing to pack and bring in the new house so I won't have to look forever to find the toothpaste!

Moving was still manic but organised boxes made the whole experience a bit easier!

    Good luck with the move!

    Fay

    1. HI Faye,
Thank You for the advice! I was so rushed that day i fear we didn't mark those boxes well enough. But that's the perfect idea to pack essential boxes that stay with you on the car.

  2. I moved. Move out, that is… and we just sold our home only 5 months later, so my wasband has also moved out a couple miles from me. Fortunately, we are still friends. I'm also an interior designer. However, I took as little with me as possible. All that stuff I was hanging onto, I don't need. I don't want it and I don't miss it either. Fortunately, everything's online these days. The hard part for me was adjusting to my new life, not the move. But I absolutely love where I live now.

  3. Ah, the pod, I remember it fondly from last summer! All of our stuff was stored in a pod while our remodel took place and it was like visiting old friends when they finally delivered all of our belongings. Wish I had some good moving tips but all I can think of is to purge, purge, purge. We all have way too much stuff and most of it will not work in your new place anyway. Good luck!

  4. A bit late, but a great source for new boxes and moving materials is Costco.com. There are different size moving kits that come with 40+ boxes in assorted sizes with packing paper and other important elements, all for a very reasonable price. Highly recommend it.

    1. HI Jessica,
That's great to know. I will definitely go there instead when I need more boxes in a couple of weeks! Surely a much better price. Thanks for the tip!

  5. I tend not to create a comment, but I read a
great deal of remarks here EPS. 3 – Move.Like.You – The Pod!
    – Jill Sorensen-Live Like You. I do have a few questions for
you if it's allright. Is it just me or do some of the comments come across like they
are left by brain dead folks? 😛 And, if
you are posting at other sites, I'd like to keep up with anything
new you have to post. Could you post a list of the complete urls of all your shared pages like your twitter feed, Facebook page or linkedin profile?

  6. Today, I went to the beach front with my kids. I found
a sea shell and gave it to my 4 year old daughter and said "You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear." She placed the shell to
her ear and screamed. There was a hermit crab inside and it pinched her ear.
She never wants to go back! LoL I know this is totally off topic but I had to tell someone!
