A dining set reinvented

It’s great when you happen to pass a piece of furniture that’s been overlooked in a second hand store, so they’re practically giving it away. I of course, can’t help myself and have to buy it.

There’s always something you can do with it. There might be that someone, that it would just be perfect for…

These chairs were larger scale, and I thought great for a man’s apartment. So a few weeks ago I picked up the six chairs and the table. Glad I remembered to take some pictures with my Iphone.

It had three leaves and was nice and sturdy. Add some black shiny spray paint..and a little gold paint.

You can find lots of different kinds in craft stores and home improvements stores.

A couple of yards of this…

Zigzag Village Green/natural $ 7.99/yard.

…and you’ve got a whole new dining set and a happy client.

Some quick and not perfect snapshots.

I can’t wait to see them in the apartment.

Until they ship they’re in my garage! They kind of look great with my old car. Gives the set a masculine feel…

Think they will cheer up a rental apartment in New York.

I’ll show pictures when we everything gets installed! I thought this dining set would find a home.

Stay tuned for the next Giveaway. As I said earlier the giveaway’s will only be things I obsess over…this next one is what Luke would call S-I-C!

  1. The set looks amazing and I'm considering redoing a set inherited from my mom. The fabric obviously has to go but the mahogany wood is intact and I feel guilty painting it over. Any advice?

    1. Hi CJB–If the wood is perfect and the chairs are very valuable, you might want to leave the finish- just picking a modern pattern will give them a drastic makeover. Then again, if you don't like the wood, then I think painting them in a color you love is better than not using them. I would just make sure to use primer underneath.

  2. Such gorgeous chairs! I'm inspired! What second hand store did you find them at? I believe you're located in Northern Virginia, which is where I am! 🙂

  3. Hi Kristen — The store I found this dining set in was called (I think) Treasure Trove on Chain bridge road in Mc Lean. Another really fantastic second hand store is Joseph's Coat in Alexandria. Lots of inventory and all the money goes to victims of domestic violence.

  4. How weird! My old bentwood chairs were upholstered in that same scallop print that is on your old chairs! I stapled a ticking stripe straight over it! New & improved chairs look great.

  5. I love this makeover! You have totally inspired me because that table is identical to our dining table. Do you think that this is a project anyone could tackle, or is it best left to professionals? I think I can handle the painting, but I am concerned about the fabric. Nice work 🙂

  6. I am really impressed with your writing skills and also with the layout on your blog. Is this a paid theme or did you customize it yourself? Anyway keep up the nice quality writing, itís rare to see a great blog like this one nowadays..

  7. I rarely leave a response, but i did some searching and wound up here A dining

Could it be just me or does it seem like a few of these comments appear like
written by brain dead people? 😛 And, if you are posting at additional places,
I'd like to follow everything new you have to post.
Would you make a list of the complete urls of all your shared sites like your Facebook page, twitter feed,
