This weeks Bedroom Design Idea – Mid Century Maven!
This look was inspired by all the beautiful mid century houses you see all around LA. Although mid century can be minimalist in feel, there is no reason to keep the design indoors that way in my opinion! Add patterns and color but stay inspired to styles from that era.

This spring we have been going full speed designing a few homes with my firm Marmalade Inc. I often like to present a design client with a couple of options for some of the rooms. Different color schemes, or pieces, or simply a slightly different vibe. It’s just to make sure that when they/we settle on something it’s what they really love the most. Because let’s face it, we’re in business to make people happy right? I generally make mood boards, to go with images and fabrics, as it seems to be an easy way to share a “look”.

I love tropical islands, I love color, I love Hollywood Regency, I love Lily Pulitzer, I love surfing, I love Katherine Rally fabrics, I love Lily Pulitzer, and I love the retro vibe of Florence Broadhurst. All of the above inspires me. A lot.

Seeing something on the screen and translating it to an actual interior is tricky! When you shoot a movie there are often just backdrops, and occasional rooms that are being styled to create the perfect shot. Talented set designers trick you in to believing a scene is part of the house, but it might just be a corner of something. So piecing together an actual design for a home from the movie Mamma Mia I had to take some serious artistic license! I imagined what it could look like, and I had to “clean” it up as the movie interiors were dreamy but too “messy” to suit daily life.
I don’t know about you, but I want to live in a place that completely moves my senses, removes me from the sometimes “mundaness” of life and that starts at the front door. So perhaps if you had Greek Island home your entry would look like this… Get the Look! Mamma Mia the movie
