It’s the time of the year when I’m always wondering what the heck I’m doing living in Washington DC? It’s gray, freezing, dreary and windy outside and everyone is sick it seems like. For President’s Day weekend we had a trip to Miami planned, which we had been looking forward to so much, but then Bring on the sunshine!
Choosing my livingroom wall color
Do you love or hate picking a paint color? It’s often the thing that keep people from finishing, or even starting their home design. First you can’t decide on a color, then when after much difficulty you find the color you want to paint, you can’t decide on what hue of that color!!! And youREAD MORE Choosing my livingroom wall color →
Hello world!
I hope you all had a great holiday! I never thought I would write this…but I’m so happy to be back from Siberia, oh I mean Sweden. It’s 27 degrees Fahrenheit here in Virginia and it has never felt warmer!! I have electricity, a working shower, clean clothes and warm floors. I feel so spoiled! READ MORE Hello world! →
RED and a little Mad Men!
In honor of my charity Knock Out Abuse Against Women’s annual event tonight, I’m doing a RED post. 700 women are getting together at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Washington DC tonight to help combat domestic violence, in just a few hours…and I’m blogging!! It’s always a blast to produce an event with 700 women looking to have a good time while supporting an important cause. Girl friends are flying in from all over the country to attend.
The theme for the night is RED (with a little MAD MEN inspiration). The room is designed by genius event designer Andre Wells. I can’t wait to see the retro red couches and the zebra walls and the 60 male models dressed like Jon Hamm who will be escorts for the evening. (YES it’s the ultimate girls night out!) Promise I’ll post pictures next week.READ MORE RED and a little Mad Men! →

Barely there color
I think a lot about color. Perhaps too much when it comes to design. A muddy or bad color combination somewhere can make me crazy, even make me depressed! But I think colors affect us WAY more than we realize. For me it’s undoubtedly the most important part of a design. When I enter aREAD MORE Barely there color →
I love neutral interiors
Yes…I know it’s hard to believe reading this blog.
But I’m seeing lots of neutral interiors that are completely inspiring. I like this beige, organic, silvery, leafy, creamy, botanical, olive, furry, old fashioned yet modern, modern, baroque, brown, wallpapered look.READ MORE I love neutral interiors →
The Power of Purple
I have to admit I hated purple for a long time. I disliked it in interiors, and avoided it like the plague in clothing after Isaac Mizrahi stated somewhere that “lavender ages you”!! But I’ve made a complete turnaround and I’m thinking of purple for my l-o-n-g overdue living room design. Sometimes said to invokeREAD MORE The Power of Purple →
White as a backdrop
One thing I’m noticing when I come here is the prevalence of white everywhere. I guess when I bought the house it was so dark–dark plastic flooring covered old wood floors, some windows were boarded up… So I really went nuts with the white porch paint!! I wanted white floors, walls..everything. I wanted to maximize the natural light, and create a bright and airy house that gave me peace. But I amaze myself, being the color addict I am, when I see all this white!READ MORE White as a backdrop →
